N. Korean officials head for Russia amid speculation about summit
SEOUL, Oct. 22 (Yonhap) -- A group of North Korean officials left for Russia on Monday, the North's official news agency said, amid speculation that the leaders of the two countries might be planning to have a summit.
Ryu Myong-son, vice department director of the Central Committee of the ruling Workers' Party of Korea (WPK), led the delegation and headed to Russia from Pyongyang earlier in the day, according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), without elaborating on further details.
The trip came amid media reports that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is planning to visit Russia later this month or early next month. Moscow earlier confirmed that President Vladimir Putin will have a summit with Kim this year.
Meanwhile, the KCNA reported in a separate article that a delegation of Russian officials led by a deputy director of its foreign ministry arrived in Pyongyang. It did not provide the nature of the visit.
