BTS' J-Hope donates money to his alma mater on his birthday

SEOUL, Feb. 18 (Yonhap) -- J-Hope, a member of K-pop boy band BTS, made an unannounced donation of 100 million won (US$88,770) to a high school in the southern city of Gwangju, his alma mater, on the occasion of his birthday on Monday, according to a charity group.

As he celebrated his 25th birthday on Monday, J-Hope donated the money to the Gwangju branch of ChildFund Korea to use as assistance for students from low-income families at Kukje High School, the charity group said.

"J-Hope secretly donated the fund, asking us not to disclose it to the public," an official at the child fund said. "The donation will be used to help economically-challenged youth realize their dreams, as well as to help young patients," the official noted.

This is J-Hope's second donation to ChildFund Korea following his initial dedication of 150 million won on Dec. 20.

With the two donations, J-Hope became the 146th member of the fund's "green noble club," a group of people who donated more than 100 million won.
