South Korean President Lee Myung-bak arrives in the Qatari capital of Doha on Feb. 9, 2012, to hold summit talks with Qatar's King Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, on economic cooperation. The freighter, which departed the Japanese port of Moji in Kitakyushu Prefecture earlier in the day, became the first foreign vessel to enter the new port, which was built as part of the Seoul-Incheon Canal, or "Ara Waterway." The 18-kilometer-long canal connects the Han River, which flows through central Seoul, and the Yellow Sea, enabling seagoing ships to directly enter Seoul. The state-run Water Resources Corp., the operator of the waterway, plans to put more freighters into operation on a pilot basis before the waterway is fully opened in May 2012. (Yonhap) (END)
